    DIY: Year-Round Easter Deco’s

Hola Friendly Fashionistas, it is indeed my very first wall post on the FF blog, and there’s no easier way to put it…  I am thrilled to be a part of the team, and looking forward to jump up on the FF bandwagon and start contributing to a community like FriendlyFash. I’m Natalia and please bear with me, as minor mistakes may appear here and there, but hey, every expert was once a beginner, so boom!

If we haven’t already, Happy Belated Easter. You may be a bit skeptical about the DIY post as the title clearly states it involves Easter deco’s, which we are all very much aware is DUNZO..But wait… Can we just take the time to open our minds to the possibility of having holidays-inspired deco’s just because we can?! Plus they’d probably look better lurking around your house/room for a year rather than just an Easter weekend.   t’s bright, easy, and lets face it, the sight of these bad boys puts a grind on that face of yours!

Get started with the needed supplies:

    -Few Eggs
    -Vinegar
    -Food Colouring
    -Colander
-Black Adhesive Vinyl or Black Sticker Paper
-Scissors or Silhouette Digital Craft Cutting Machine (If you just so happen to have one)

    Instructional Steps:

    1. Step 1 is to go ahead and empty out the eggs, from the yolk to the eggs whites, everything! ‘

    2. After having cleaned the insides and outer area of the eggs, gently place all the eggs into the colander and slowly splash vinegar all over the eggs; this is to make sure the colours turn out as vibrant as we see it.

    3. Moving on to the food colouring, use one colour at a time so you might want to also work one egg at a time. Add a few drops onto it and swirl your fingers around the egg to coat.

    4. Rinse the egg to get rid of access dye.

    5. Repeat process with your remaining eggs.

    6. Once they’ve all been dyed and dried properly, cut very small mustache shapes on the adhesive vinyl/sticker paper and apply to eggs.

TIP! The results look especially awesome when the mustache shapes are about an inch wide.

There you have it, it’s simple, looks neat, and you end up with dye in your hands, which is clearly what our aim was! Ha!

  • DIY: KITTY FLATS

    DIY: KITTY FLATS

Those Charlotte Olympia kitty flats have been on my inspiration folder for way too long. Drawing them down and window shopping with Arthur (he came purring at our doorstep on New Year’s eve and he’s here from now on!) are just not enough I urge myself to DIY a pair.

Materials:A pair of black loafers (I’m using Rubi’s)Gold permanent marker (I’m using Unipaint)Black permanent marker (optional)Gold fabric paint (I’m using Plaid Fashion Peinture Relief in Gold Glitter)Fabric cutting scissorsA pencil, penknife and a paper for rough sketching

Sketch out a life sized kitty heel. You can place a normal AA paper on your computer screen, magnify your kitty face reference to life size, and outline the kitty face. I’m not sure how other people say, but I call this the light box method.

Use a penknife to cut out the eyes, and the outlines of the ears. This is to make sure the features of your kitty face are all proportionate and appropriate.

Tape down your cutout kitty face on the vamp and outline the ears, nose and eyes with your pencil. Remove the paper and draw the whiskers, mouth and other details.

Outline with the gold permanent marker. Be very careful as this is a one way ticket!

Cut out the excess fabric to form the ears.

Use a black permanent marker to line the cut out area.

Last but not least, carefully fill in the gold areas with a moderate layer of 3d fabric paint. If it’s your first time using the fabric paint, shake it well and try it on a paper beforehand. Air dry for a few hours and you’re done! The glitter effect is not obvious here, but in real they’re really sparkly!

    Hope you’ll find this purrrrfect!

    Love,

    Destiny

    TRAVELAWAY: SEA AQUARIUM SENTOSA SINGAPORE

Last week, my hometown friend came all the way from Canada and we’d finally visited the sea aquarium at Sentosa Singapore!

We got to see seahorses via a magnifying glass,

Getting really close to hold the little crab and touch the starfish!

Immersing in the whimsical rhythm of the underwater world,

    Jellyfish dancing in slow ballad,

And learnt that eels are gentle giants. They look scary but are more often too shy to come out in public.

And Dory’s really helping Marlin to find Nemo!

And waving hello to the cute diver! Now we’re talking in two mediums!

-Make a weekend off to visit the aquarium with your friends and family. It’s definitely an activity great for all young to old!

    – Take your time between taking pictures and looking closely at the underwater world. There are too much details you don’t want to miss a single thing.

    – Spend at least 3 hours to make it worthwhile (personal opinion)

    – Take your time to read all the biological facts and detailed info of each species.

    – If you’re planning for a full day trip, visit the Adventure Cove Waterpark for some interactive snorkelling!

Now I need more blue dates just to get back in there!

  • DIY: Subtle Pattern Tee

    DIY: Subtle Pattern Tee

There are times when you glance at your wardobe and question yourself about half the plain basic tee’s you own. Obviously, you predict that you will never ever wear it, as the garment is simply too bland for your own good! What do you do? Throw it in a pile and convince yourself you won’t put it to waste and give it away to charity. As much as we wanted to, lets face it, we never actually get to it. Thankfully us FriendlyFashers have come across one solution we think would brighten up your wardobe (literally!) as well as not put your basic tee’s to waste.

WARNING: This is a DIY post, so chicas be prepared to get your hands dirty and if you’re anything like me, wear a body armour, as I am uber clumsy.

Before you get too cocky and overly excited, causing you to spray bleach the whole shirt, focus on the supplies needed and instructions carefully.

    Things you need

-Plain tee (refrain from using white, as the results won’t be very visible)
    -Poster paper
    -Empty spray bottle
-Fabric bleach (purchased from supermarkets containing imported goods and even some craft stores)
-Rubber gloves (how are you going to scartch your hair or face midway, when all that bleach is on your hands?!)

    Instructions:

    1. Be sure to start off with your gloves on and spreading sheets of old newspaper on the area you are conducting this DIY at.

    2. Brainstorm what shape/character/animal/pattern you want on your tee. Once you have figured that out, use the poster paper to cut out whatever design you desire as a silhouette.

    3. Once you have cut out your silhouette, prepare to spray by placing the shape on the tee. (It’s best if you place newspaper inside the shirt, so the bleach doesn’t seap to the back of the tee)

    4. Mix 2 parts bleach, and 1 part water into the spray bottle.

    5. Now it’s time to place your stencil on the shirt and start spraying all around the outer parts of the stencil.

    6. It will take awhile for the colour to start changing so be patient, and if it isn’t as light as you wanted, go ahead and go crazy with the spray!

    7. When your shirt is bleached to your liking, take off the stencil and rinse thouroughly.

    8. Boom! It is complete and all you have to do it wait for it to dry, and you can start washing it regularly again.

There you have it, in 8 simple steps!

This idea has been circulating, but we would especially like to thank Savannah from the OH SO PRETTY THE DIARIES blog, for her photos!

  • Steal Her Style: Vanessa Hudgens

    Steal Her Style: Vanessa Hudgens

We have picked a star who not only has just released a new movie recently, but one who has been in the spotlight for what feels like a decade! We are rattling on about the stunning Vanessa Hudgens. We’ve seen her as the quiet, insecure girl who was sprinkled in floral and skirts in ‘High School Musical’; then we saw bits of V.Hudgens in the new flick ‘Spring Breakers’ where she was decked out in lets just say… a lot less clothing. It feels like we’ve seen it it all, but what we don’t normally witness, is her daily fashion do’s. As usual, the FF team went on and scoped the outfits that she’s been caught in; and indeed the young talent knows how to work it! We are here to point out the major oomph’s and ahh’s she adds to her wardrobe to make us crave her exquisite fashion sense.

     1. Go with the FLOW…

What: It’s that carefree bohemian vibe she gives off, and it just makes the paparrazi want to snap infinite shots of the gal. It’s a easy to put on, and looks divine when the fabric is caressed with the wind. On top of that these type of get-ups are uber comfortable, and even tricks people into thinking you actually put effort into your outfit that day.

When: The best part about these kind of garments, is that it suits pretty much everything. You could head to the mall for a quick lunch, then for cocktails with your gal-pals without getting any judgmental up and down stares.

Where: From the supermarket, to the beach, to a night out with your beau… must we really go on?!

    2. LAYERING..even in the summer…

What: It is Malaysia, and sometimes the weather just drives us over the edge. Times like these where you can sometimes say “screw it, looking good could sometimes mean sacrificing”. Most common one we hear about are your poor toes taking the pain, while you galavant in heels all day, or in this case sacrifice your level of comfort when it comes to the weather! As much as we love simple looks, sometimes you can’t help but stack on layers and layers of scarves or jackets just to give the outfit that oomph that it needs!

Where: Putting on layers on any of your simple outfits could be done no matter which venue or event you are hitting.

When: When is it not the right time to rock out with a denim vest or leather jacket?!

    3. SIMPLICITY really is the ultimate sophistication…

What: You can still look cute, even when you’re rushing to 7 Eleven, or the gas station. It takes literally two seconds to match a pair of flattering pair of jeans, and a comfortable button up or vintage tank.

Where: It’s casual enough to show up wherever, even certain dinner plans, who’s judging?!

When: It’s appropriate for everyday errand runs to gas stops, to just a quick coffee with your amigas.

    4. The TEE-DENIM ensemble…

What: This is one of my favourites, its simple, edgy and could may be a bit too casual for some, but it’s comfortable, not over the top but still has enough going on. The whole shirt tucked into the high-waisted shorts is an old school look that you could never go wrong with! Vintage tee’s speak for themselves, all you have to do is embrace that edge you’ve got.

Where: Since it is very casual, it can be worn to pretty much everything, except for any events that are held at nighter time.

    When: Anytime before dark!
